The continuous sluggish of US housing market forces US producers Indalex Aluminum Solutions to shut down Girard plant in Ohio. A spokesman of Indalex said the decrease demand of aluminium windows and doors makes Girard plant’s future vulnerable. Indalex is to make official decision before the end of January, but the company has inform unions to discuss the future of the extrusion plant in the next month. Girard is the oldest and lowest efficient plant of Indalex to serve construction industry. Nearly half of hourly workers have been lay off. The plant lay off 45 workers due to the close extrusion press due to the technical problems in August. 85 workers were lay off in October.
