JAKARTA (AP): Indonesian shares recovered from a sharp drop Thursday on buying in telecommunication, mining and bank blue chips.
The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite index closed 14.077 points or 0.8 higher at 1,776.361, down from an intraday high of 1,785.724. Trade was moderate with gainers led loser 98 to 53 and 64 stocks unchanged.
Traders described the rise as a mild rebound which reflected that the market was still in a cautious mode after recent sharp falls, while gains in most Asian markets improve sentiment on local bourse.
Heavyweight Telkom gained 1.6 percent to end at Rp 9,350 after Wednesday's 2.1 percent fall and Bank Mandiri closed 2 percent up at Rp 2,475, a rebound from 3.9 percent loss in previous day.
Meanwhile, Nickel and gold miner Antam climbed 6 percent to Rp 9,650 on hopes for strong 2007 earnings due to higher commodity prices.
