SHANGHAI Oct 27 (Reuters) - Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco), the country's top aluminium producer and the world's third-largest alumina maker, is preparing to revive its share placement plan from 2009, local media reported on Wednesday.

Chalco (2600.HK: Quote) said in July last year that it planned to raise up to 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) by selling as many as 1 billion yuan-denominated A shares to institutional investors. The plan obtained regulatory approval in April this year.

The official Shanghai Securities News, citing an unidentified source, said the aluminium firm was preparing a new prospectus but the amount to be raised and the total number of shares to be issued had not been fixed. Funds would be used to expand production capacity.

Chalco posted a worst than-expected loss for the third quarter on a supply glut and weak margins.
