European FACE Updates Import Duty Campaign

The Federation of Aluminium Consumers in Europe (FACE) is updating its campaign against European Union’s imports duty of aluminum that reached in 2006. As per the deal, import duty on primary aluminum was cut to 3% from 6% but that on aluminum alloy continued at 6%. FACE, on behalf of European independent aluminum fabricators, is calling for the complete elimination of import duties, noting 150,000 jobs in the sector are at risk from the combination of growing dependence on imports. The group also calls attentions to the upstream aluminum sector, it estimates independent aluminum fabricators account for about 95% of the aluminum sector workforce in Europe, up from the 50% several years ago.
