Hydro's Schneider next TMS chief

 Currently serving as vice president of TMS, Schneider has been a member of the Society for 18 years. “I am proud to serve the society in this position as an international member,” said Schneider, who will be the first non-American TMS president ever.

Schneider received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in foundry technology, as well as his doctorate in metallurgy, from the Technical University of Berlin. He has published more than 140 technical papers and is named as inventor in nine patents.

 

 

“We are pleased with Wolfgang's appointment as the first non-American ever to lead this foremost institution in the global community of metal science,” says Svein Richard Brandtz?g, Hydro's president and CEO. “As head of our foremost R&D activities in Germany and by his contribution to a many cross-over projects, he has been, and is, a key driver for optimizing aluminium R&D and innovation in Hydro. With his regular lectures at several universities, Wolfgang also is an avid scout for new, young talents suited to help Hydro innovate going forward.”

 

 

As a member of the society, Schneider served on the TMS Board of Directors as chair of the TMS Light Metals Division from 2007-2010 and from 2003 to 2006 in the membership development area. He has also volunteered in various other capacities for TMS since 1997. His service includes: Cast Shop Technology Symposium subject chair, Aluminum Committee chair, Strategic Advisory Committee member, and Nominating Committee member. Schneider has received several Society awards, including the TMS Light Metals Award in both 1990 and 1995.

 

 

Schneider was also active in a number of other societies, such as the German Society of Material Science DGM and the German Foundrymen Society VDG.

 

 

Schneider will assume the office of TMS president at the TMS-AIME Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
