July 16 (Bloomberg) -- Debu Bhattacharya, managing director of Hindalco Industries Ltd., India's largest aluminum producer, says Indian smelters won't follow Chinese competitors in reducing production. Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. and 19 producers in China, the world's biggest maker of the metal, last week pledged to reduce output by as much as 10 percent because of a power shortage in the country, sending aluminum to a record. Bhattacharya spoke in a telephone interview yesterday. ``I don't think the Indian smelters need to take this step as the power shortage is not very critical here. The production cut announced by the Chinese will not really create a deficit as the extent of the cut is very marginal. There may be a loss of 1 million metric ton compared with global production of more than 32 million tons. We may see some deficit only if China goes for a further production cut.'' Source: Bloomberg
