ABB India gets orders worth 4.55 billion rupees from Vedanta Aluminum

MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Power equipment and engineering company ABB India Ltd. said it received orders worth 4.55 billion rupees from Vedanta Resources Plc's Vedanta Aluminum Ltd. unit. ABB India, a unit of Swiss-Swedish engineering group ABB Ltd, said it will provide automation and power products and solutions for the expansion of Vedanta's smelter plant in the eastern Indian state of Orissa. ABB India will also supply 400/220 kilovolt switchyard to the new smelter plant, it said in a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange. Vedanta's annual aluminium smelting capacity at Jharsuguda will be about 1.7 million tonnes by 2010, making it one of the largest aluminium plants in the world. At 1:35 p.m., ABB India shares were down 1.02 percent at 784 rupees on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the benchmark Sensex was down 4.23 percent at 13,742.70.
