MUMBAI, Mar 27, 2009 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- India's state-run National Aluminium Co. (532234.BY) is seeking a 10% import tax on primary aluminum to protect the domestic industry from cheap imports, the Business Standard reported Friday. "We are still in discussions with the government. We are hopeful that the government would consider protecting our interest," the report quoted Chairman C.R. Pradhan as saying. India's federal government recently imposed an import tax of 21%-35% on some aluminum products to check cheap imports from China. The tax will be effective up to Oct. 8, 2009 and will be imposed only on products from China.
