Orissa Diary reported that to build awareness about occupational health and safety, a Safety March was being conducted by Vedanta Aluminium Limited, Lanjigarh on March 3rd 2012 which kick started the 41st National Safety Week to be continued up to March 12th 2012. The Safety March was led by Dr Mukesh Kumar president VAL.
The Safety March was started from the Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar to the plant area of VAL. Consequent to the march, Dr Mukesh Kumar hoisted national safety day flag in front of the plant office building and later safety pledge was taken by B S Mund, D Ravindranath of VAL and Mr Bibhu Prasad assistant director Factories and Boilor, Kalahandi zone. Including the employees of VAL other officials present on the occasion were Mr Koustav Ratan Kundu head HR, Mr JK Mishra, Mr Rabinarayan Mishra, Mr Avilash Dwivedi and Mr Soumya Ranjan Nayak.
All the employees of the refinery, including the employees of associate companies promised to be committed towards the cause of safety, health and protection of environment and to observe rules regulations for the same.
Dr Mukesh Kumar said that occupational safety and health is an integral part of Vedanta Culture and the regular safety drive has significantly contributed to reduction in the rate of accidents in the plant. VAL has always been trying to implement the safety measures and been successful also.
Mr Bibhu Prasad lauded VAL, Lanjigarh for implementing safety measures. AT Vedanta, even the illiterate civil workers wear helmets. Safety measures taken by Vedanta are exemplary and best as far as I have seen in different places.
