Indian operators will relaunch Cameroon Alumina mining project which has been on standby for years now. Even though the details of this project are not yet revealed, this is confirmed by trusted sources.
According to these sources, this was one of the subjects discussed during the audience granted to Ravi Kumar, the Indian consul in Cameroon, by Ernest Gbwaboubou on May 30, 2018. During the meeting, the consul indicated that its partners Indostand Aluminium, Duba? Aluminium and Hydromines, the Indian company Hindalco were interested in the mining project.
Let’s remind that in November 2010, Cameroon Alumina Limited announced that it found a 550 million tons bauxite reserve at Ngaoundal, in Adamaoua. The consortium then requested a mining permit to start operations in 2013 and produce 4.5-9 million tons of bauxite per year. At the time, the processing cost was estimated at $6 billion. Then the construction of a railway to link Ngaoundal to Kribi deep-water port was planned.
