News Muscat, Nov. 24—Electric Power Plant Sohar Aluminium Achieved Full Production Ahead of Schedule. Sohar Aluminium Electricity Plant general manager Niall O‘Byrne that is a result of team work. This plant stands beside Sohar port, including four gas turbine and two steam turbines. Each gas turbine can generate 165 megawatts electricity. And consume 1 million cubic meter natural gas. And suggested that:”when this project put into production, it can generate 823 megawatts electricity. Steam turbine equipped special burners to reduce release. This smelter project located in a 12 kilometer highland in Sohar and was invested about 2.4 billion $, mainly use ALcan’s AP smelter technology. Sohar aluminum company shareholders are Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Administration. This company was set up in the year 2004. It is expected to put into production in the year 2008.
