Reuters reported that Bulgaria's largest zinc and lead smelter KCM will keep its metals output target unchanged in 2011 on hopes of stable conditions on the global markets.

Mr Nikola Dobrev ED of the holding company controlling the smelter said that this year KCM expects to produce 73,000 tonnes of zinc and up to 65,000 tonnes of lead.

Mr Dobrev said that the plant which exports almost all of its output to neighboring Turkey, Greece and Romania produced 73,000 tonnes of zinc and some 63,000 tonnes of lead last year up 7.4% and 1.6% on an annual basis respectively. He said that I hope for stable markets in 2011. Not favourable but stable which means seeing constant demand for our production.

The economic crisis has delayed KCM's EUR 150 million investment to upgrade lead production and boost zinc output. It is now expected to be fully completed by September 2013.
