Orkla ASA said its joint-venture with Alcoa Inc, Elkem Aluminium (EA), has won a deal from UC RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminium producers, to supply technology and expertise to RUSAL's modernisation programme, in a deal worth 20 mln usd.
Under the terms of the deal, UC RUSAL will have full access to the aluminium manufacturing technology which enabled EA to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 67 pct while increasing productivity by 15 pct.
Orkla said UC RUSAL technicians and operators will now visit EA's Lista facility for a period of two years.
EA has already sold its technology to US joint owner Alcoa, and to Turkey's ETI Aluminyum.
UC RUSAL has about 12.5 pct of the world's aluminium production and 100,000 employees.
EA, meanwhile, is owned on a 50:50 basis by Orkla subsidiary Elkem, and Alcoa.
