Russia January-May Copper, Aluminum Exports Up

Russia exported 118,300 metric tons of copper in January-May, an increase of 5.6% compared with the corresponding period last year, the federal customs service reported. The exported copper was worth $720.5 million, compared with $582.1 million a year earlier. Copper exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States during the period was 116,300 tons, worth $708 million, compared with 111,500 tons worth $580.2 million in January-May 2006. Russia’s aluminium exports during the period increased 1.1% on the year to 1.82 million tons,worth $3.368 billion, compared with $2.646 billion a year earlier. Aluminum export to countries outside the CIS was 1.816 million tons, worth $3.359 billion, compared with 1.797 million tons, worth $2.64 billion a year earlier. Russia’s nickel export in January-May totaled 102,400 tons, 4.2% less than in January-May 2006. The exported nickel was worth $4.245 billion, compared with $1.721 billion in January-May 3006. Nickel export to countries outside the CIS was 102,000 tons, worth $4.227 billion, compared with 106,600 tons, worth $1.717 billion a year earlier.
