Russia, Netherlands, China To Build Aluminum Smelter

An international consortium formed by the Russian Rinko Holding, Netherlands’Vimteco and Chinese Yuilyan is planning to build an aluminium smelter in Kyrgyzstan with the annual capacity of 500,000 metric tons, as well as an nepheline concentrate complex and a coal-fired electric power station, the Kyrgyzstan government press service said. The aluminum smelter will be constructed in the Panfilovsky district of the Chuiskaya region of Kyrgyzstan, and the Aidarkensky nepheline concentrator in the Batkenskaya region. Also a mining complex will be created at the Zardalinskoe nepheline and bauxite deposit. The coal-fired electric power station will be built near the Kara-Keche and Min- Kush coal deposits. The construction of the first phase of the project will take three years, after which time production will be 250,000 tons a year of primary aluminium, 500,000 tons of bauxite and 500 megawatts of electricity. The total construction of the bauxite complex will take five years, after which the aluminium smelter will double its output. The investment in the aluminium project is seen at $3.2 billion, and total investment, including infrastructure will reach $5 billion.
