Russian Jan-Aug Copper Exports Up 8.9% On Year

Russia exported 178,100 metric tons of copper in January-August, 8.9% more than in the corresponding period last year, the Federal Customs Service reported. The exported copper was worth $1.142 billion compared with $974.4 million a year earlier. Copper exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States during the period were 175,100 tons worth $1.123 billion compared worth 162,500 tons worth $968.9 million a year earlier. Russia exported 2.589 million metric tons of primary aluminum in January-August, 4.9% less than a year earlier, the service reported. The exported aluminum was worth $5.194 billion compared with $4.223 billion a year earlier. Aluminum exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States were 2.581 million tons worth $5.174 billion compared with 2.715 million tons worth $4.212 billion in January-August, 2006. Meanwhile, Russia exported 166,800 metric tons of nickel in January-August, 0.6% less than a year earlier, the service said. The exported nickel was worth $6.209 billion compared with $3.192 billion a year earlier.
