UC RUSAL to Inject $700m into Taishet Smelter Project

The world’s largest aluminum producer UC RUSAL said it plans to invest $700 million in Taishet aluminium smelter project this year, which has already been invested over $250 million. The project is scheduled to be put into production at the end of 2009 with expected full capacity at 750,000tpy. The project contains cast-house, anode and gas treatment facilities with four potrooms using proprietary RA-400 cell technology developed by UC Rusal’s engineering and technology centre. About 70% of the contracts for supplying equipment for the project have already been settled, and excavation works are currently nearing completion and the foundation preparations along with the erection of the steel core and support facilities have been on track, said the company.
