RusAl Company will submit a project for construction of a new aluminum plant

By the end of the year the RusAl Company will submit a project for construction of a new aluminum plant on the outskirts of Yekibastuz. According to representatives of the united company, the work of the metallurgic plant will not influence the ecological situation due to the use of safe technologies during operations. The main factors for starting the project are the presence of a powerful fuel base and a developed transport and power energy infrastructure in the region. It should be noted that RusAl owns 50% of the shares of the largest coal mines, “Bogatyr” and “Severnyi”. With the construction of the aluminum plant the demands for power energy will grow, so it is planned to increase the output volume of the coal mines. The project is also based on the technical feasibility for the reconstruction and implementation of new units of the Yekibastuz State District Power Station-2 and State District Power Station-1. In the event construction of the enterprise receives approval of the Kazakhstan government, the plant will start production in 2014. Victor Shukin, general head of the “Bogatyr Access Komir” Company “By 2020 the “Bogatyr Access Komir” Company will add 12 million tons to the 58 million tons they already mine. The investments to the company will make up 149 billion tenge or about 1.2 billion US dollars. The production technology of Bogatyr coal mine will be changed to a cyclical-and-continuous method or conveyer ore transportation. Initial data is being received now, the choosing of the area is in process, and by the end of the year the main technical and economical feasibility points will be presented to the government and leader of the country.” It should be noted that aluminum production already exists in the Pavlodar region and at the end of 2007 the ENRC Company launched the first line for production of this metal.
