Rio Says Alcan Chief Dick Evans to Lead Aluminum Unit

Oct. 10 -- Rio Tinto Group, seeking to buy Alcan Inc. for $38.1 billion, said Alcan Chief Executive Officer Dick Evans will be in charge of aluminum once the combination is completed. Evans, 60, will be based in Montreal, Rio said today in a statement distributed by the Regulatory News Service. Steve Hodgson will head the bauxite and alumina unit based in Queensland, Australia. Jacynthe Cote will lead the primary metal unit from Montreal, London-based Rio said. Christel Bories will be head of the engineered products unit. Rio said the acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter.
