Rio Tinto doesn’t propose to sell Alcan

CEO of Rio Tinto Tom Albanese said on Wednesday that They has no plan to sell part of Alcan business, but considering the competitors, it can’t say it is impossible. Albanese said: “Alcan business goes very well, assist Rio Tinto’s aluminum business, it is also an important part on its copper, aluminum and iron ore departments.” Rio Tinto said from the end of 2009, Alcan will bring $940m profit, this number was expected $600m before. Information said that Rio Tinto aluminum profit is $1.1b ($424m of them are come from Alcan), second only to copper and iron ore. A senior executive officer of Rio Tinto said BHP Billiton has to raise takeover price again to attract Rio go back to negotiation table. Information said that Rio Tinto net income in the second half year in 2007 has raised 11% to $4.06bm Alcan net income is $130m.
