Mumbai, Apr 10, 2008- The London Metal Exchange (LME) announced its annual results for the third record year 2007. There were nearly 93 million lots of futures and options traded last year, up around 7% on year. Four contracts increased over 10% in volume compared with a year ago. The primary aluminum futures contract totaled over 40 million lots, representing 10% growth on year; the Copper Grade A contract grew 13.6% to 21.4 million lots; the NASAAC contract grew over 19% to 1.2 million lots; and the Aluminum Alloy contract grew nearly 11% to about 0.5 million lots. Chief executive officer Martin Abbott said, "These results clearly show another excellent year for LME, as well as its high levels of liquidity and the continued confidence and credibility of its services. Our current and expanding portfolio of service offerings, led by the launch of the steel billet contracts in February, means that we are on track to meet the target to double volumes in the following five years."
