HANNIBAL, Ohio - An aluminum-maker has notified workers that it intends to eliminate up to 982 jobs at its southeast Ohio plant this fall. Ormet Corp. sent a notification late Monday to union workers, the Monroe County commissioners and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The notice says "curtailment of operations" will mean the loss of up to 833 hourly and 149 salary positions. Company spokeswoman Linda King confirms Wednesday that the notices were sent, but declined further comment. A woman answering the phone at United Steelworkers Local No. 5724 referred calls to Ormet. The plant is in Hannibal, just across the Ohio River from West Virginia.
