MANITOWOC — A $650,000 state grant announced Thursday will help Skana Aluminum Co. redevelop its Mirro Drive manufacturing site.

Gov. Scott Walker announced Skana will receive the “Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment” money from the state Department of Commerce.

The owners of Skana purchased the aluminum rolling mill of Koenig & Vits in March, and, in July, workers cast the first slab of aluminum from one of two rebuilt furnaces.

The state money will be used for site clearance, building rehabilitation and environmental remediation.

Friday’s Herald Times Reporter newspaper and website will have additional information about the grant and the progress of the new company.
