Chalco Licensed to Exploit Aluminum Mine in Australia

BEIJING, Sep 28, 2007 -- Aluminum Corporation of China Limited has been licensed to develop the Aurukun aluminum ore project in Australia. Aurukun aluminum mine is located in the Cape York, north part of the State of Queensland, and adjacent the well-known Weipa Mine. Covering an area of 2,189 square kilometers, it has a reserve of 420 million tons. With an investment of AUD 3 billion, the project includes an alumina plant with an annul production capacity of 2.1 million tons, a 10-million-ton aluminum mine, and infrastructure.
