London, March 18—BHP Billiton said on Tuesday that its three aluminum smelters in south Africa are “generally”operating with the 90% power supply, without changing from last week. Illtud Harri from the company said, ”the smelters are generally operating with the 90% power supply.”, but he didn’t provide further details. BHP announced last week that it would shut the Bayside aluminum smelter in south Africa, while focusing on the production of Hillside smelter and Mozambique"s Mozal smelter. The state-run power company Eskom in south Africa has been reining the power supply, and this impacts those energy-intensive customers in the country such as miners and smelters.
