UN investigate Alcan on aluminum smelt technology

UN declares recently it has started formal investigation on Alcan, who was takeover by Rio Tinto last October. UN has delivered statement of objections to Alcan; initially believe Alcan abuse its superior position in aluminum smelt technology market. UN said Alcan may combine its aluminum smelt technology with crucible equipment illegally; this facility has sold out by its filial ECL. If this is confirmed, it will affect the technology update in aluminum industry and will influence global aluminum competition. Alcan has eight weeks to response this case. Alcan said they are for anti competition, they will coordinate for UN’s investigation and will make response.”
