National Alluminium Company (NALCO) reported a 45% jump in net profits to Rs 5,726 million for the quarter ended Dec. 2006 as compared with Rs 3,930 million for the quarter ended Dec. 2005.
Sales of the company rose to Rs 14,485.7 million for the quarter as compared with Rs 13,249.1 million for the quarter ended Dec. 2005.
Total income of the company also rose to Rs 15,464 million for the current quarter as compared with Rs 13,793.6 million for the year-ago quarter.
The earnings per share (EPS ) of the company was seen at Rs 8.8 as compared with Rs 6.1 for the year-ago period.
The company is trying to rope in Indonesian government to set up an overseas aluminium plant in a joint venture partnership at an investment of around Rs 150 billion.
The government asked the company to set up the overseas project in joint venture partnership with government agencies and the company is at the final stage of discussion with the Indonesian government. It would set up a smelter and captive power plant in the overseas location. The total capacity of the plant would be around 2.5 lakh tons per annum. This project would be funded through internal accruals and debt.
Shares of the company ended at Rs 211.80, down by Rs 0.45, or 0.21% at the BSE. Total volume of shares traded was 16,528.
