SINGAPORE--Japan's inventories of aluminum mill products in January dropped 3.4% on month to 81,009 metric tons, according to preliminary data issued Wednesday by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
On year, aluminum mill products in January were down 6.4%, the data showed.
Japan's aluminum mill output in January fell 9.8% on month to 177,388 metric tons. It was up 0.6% on year.
The ministry didn't give any reason for the fall.
Wednesday, the three-month aluminum contract on the London Metals Exchange was trading at $2,835 a ton, down $46 from the afternoon kerb Tuesday.
