Aluminum output down 9.8% in July, says Abal - Brazil

Brazilian primary aluminum production fell 9.8% year-on-year in July to 129,300t, the country's aluminum association Abal said Monday. This year through July aluminum production totaled 900,000t, down 6.7% year-on-year. The top producers in the first seven months of the year were CBA with 273,900t, up 1.3% over the same period of 2008. Albras followed with 265,400t, down 0.3%. However, Alcoa's (NYSE: AA) production in January-July fell 12.6% to 189,900t. BHP Billiton's (NYSE: BHP) output fell 4.5% year-on-year to 100,800t. US company Novelis (NYSE: NVL) increased production 9.8% to 59,200t.
