When Bailey began developing a redesign of their products' construction in 2007, the industry had seen few attempts at modernising the standard design.
The market was full of conventionally assembled caravans, consisting of sandwich construction timber frame laminated and semi-laminated panels, cloaked in exterior plastic mouldings which were secured together using a combination of adhesives and exterior fastenings.
The result, many will argue, was unsurprising. Water ingress was a problem for many, while heat loss through the walls was also an issue.
But in 2009, along came the Pegasus touring caravan, becoming Bailey's vanguard in the introduction of the Alu-Tech construction system.
With Alu-Tech, Bailey adopted a different approach through the introduction of an interlocking aluminium extrusion external framework which clamped the body panels together to produce a shell that was inherently more rigid and more durable.
Five years on and the results speak for themselves. Having won multiple awards and produced more than 25,000 units, the Alu-Tech system really has taken the market by storm.
To put these figures in a different perspective if those caravans and motorhomes were all cued up, nose to tail in a straight line they would stretch for over 150 miles - equivalent to the distance from London to Cardiff.
Speaking on the anniversary of this technology, Nick Howard, Managing Director of Bailey, said: "Five years on and we remain committed to an Alu-Tech future based upon the firm belief that this ground-breaking technology continues to provide the most complete and effective design solution for the needs of our caravan and motorhome customers."
Bailey will be deservedly celebrating their entrepreneurial vision over the last half a decade as the Alu-Tech design continues to serve as the basis for each new caravan and motorhome developed by the Bristol team.
