Because of the local management didn’t admit Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria to transport raw material from nearby rivers, the resume of this smelter may delay to next year. Local government said that river transportation may affect local fishing industry. RUSAL public relations manager Vera Kurochkina said she hope that problem would solve till the end of next January. This smelter was constructed in 1997, but ceased production one month later owe to gas and electricity problems. RUSAL bought 77.5% of its shares this February from Nigeria government. This smelter has a 193,000 annual production capacity. This smelter is also including a port and a Gas-Fired Power Station. Nigeria government own 15% of its shares, and Germany Company Ferrostaal AG has 7.5%. RUSAL will invest 150 million dollars in next three years. The smelter will lost 42 million one month if left unused.
