Rusal's Bauxite Mine in Guinea Shut by Demonstrators

United Co. Rusal's bauxite mine in Guinea has been shut for two days by protesters who are demonstrating over a lack of power supplies for the local community, a leader of the demonstrators said. The protesters are blocking rail lines to the mine, Moussa Bangoura, a leader of the demonstration, said in an interview late yesterday in the capital, Conakry. Rusal said in a statement that it's working with the government to resolve the situation. ``The situation in Guinea does not affect the company's overall performance targets,'' the company said in an e-mailed statement. Guinea has 30 percent of the world's bauxite, an ore used to make aluminum.
