Oct. 13 (Bloomberg) -- United Co. Rusal's bauxite mine in Guinea didn't make shipments to the port of Conakry last week after demonstrators blocked rail lines. Cie. Des Bauxites de Kindia, the mine owned by the Russian company, has been affected by protests because electricity isn't being supplied to nearby communities. Rusal pays $200,000 a year to the Manbia community for the rights to mine in the area, Sire Dieng, a spokesman for the company, said in an interview in Guinea on Oct. 10. ``We are not going to stop our movement as long as the company does not provide us power in our village,'' said Alia Camara, a demonstrator at the mine, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Conakry, Guinea's capital. Two protesters were shot dead by state security forces trying to break up the protest, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported on Oct. 10, citing unidentified witnesses. Guinea is the world's biggest exporter of bauxite, which is refined into alumina, the raw material used to make aluminum. Source: Bloomberg
