Rio Tinto Prepare to Explore Africa Aluminum Mine

Though there is no bauxite resource in Congo (Kinshasa), but it has potential water and electricity resource. SO Rio Tinto plan to build a 2,000 MW hydropower station in the bank of the Congo River, to supply electricity to the aluminum smelter. The material the smelter need are imported from Guinea, one ton alumina need two ton bauxite Guinea takes up one third of the world’s bauxite resource. But because of short of electricity, most of Guinea’s bauxite is exported. So Guinea bauxite companies (Alcoa, Alcan Holdings)and Rio Tinto haven’t plan to build aluminum smelter in Guinea.
