Rio Tinto updates its Scotland aluminum smelter

Rio Tinto Alcan declared to invest 45m lb to its Scotland Lochaber aluminum smelter. They will install Vortex generator hydropower in this smelter. This project will be launch in 2009 and finished in 2012. Its generator was installed in 1929, the new generator will rise electricity generate capacity, then the output of this smelter will grow to 50000 metric ton each year from 43000 metric ton each year. Alcan UK general manager Wyn Jones said: “in this one hundred years, generate electricity by water power is an important part in Scotland highland area.” Information said that Lochaber plant supply 8m lb to local economy, employees reach 180, is the biggest private employer in there. Rio Tinto Alcan was set up in Nov. 2007, bauxite and alumina output is the first in the world, it is also the main producer of alumina.
