Huntington Aluminum, a startup aluminum processor, announced today that it will establish its initial operation here, creating up to 43 new jobs by 2013.

The company, which plans to melt aluminum chips and resell them as ingots and sows, will invest more than $1.1 million to purchase and equip the 58,000 square-foot former Gotec Plus facility at 1605 Riverfork Drive.

"Indiana's economy depends on people willing to invest in seeing their big ideas succeed," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "We're excited that Huntington Aluminum has chosen Indiana as its home and for the positive impact it will have on this community."

Huntington Aluminum plans to begin hiring processing and supervisory associates early this summer as improvements take place at the facility. The company anticipates being operational by July.

"I want to thank the state, city and county leaders and the local economic development groups for working so hard to help Huntington Aluminum become a reality," said Roger Kilty, president of Huntington Aluminum. "Now that I've been through the process, I can better understand why our community and Indiana have been successful in supporting the creation of new jobs. They want me to have a successful business and appreciate how hard I'm working to make this a reality."

Kilty, a veteran of the aluminum processing industry, most recently served as a part-owner of a company that builds, installs and cleans furnaces for foundries.

"I am very excited to announce the creation of yet another locally owned manufacturing company. Roger's family has lived in Huntington for years and he graduated from Huntington North High School. It is very encouraging to see an industrial property which has been vacant for a number of years being re-deployed for 21st century manufacturing. The city of Huntington really appreciates the assistance of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the Huntington County Commissioners for helping to create opportunities for as many as 43 new jobs as part of this project," said Huntington Mayor Steve Updike.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Huntington Aluminum up to $300,000 in performance-based tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Huntington and Huntington County will consider county economic development income tax (CEDIT) funding to support the project at the request of Huntington County United Economic Development.

"The Huntington County Commissioners are aggressively working as a team with the state, the city and Huntington County Economic Development to win job opportunities for our county. There were other states and communities bidding for this company. This is a perfect example of how a collaborative approach to economic development can work. We had the ability to fast track our assistance which ultimately secured this company's commitment to Huntington. It's a pleasure to offer our congratulations and thanks to Roger Kilty and Huntington Aluminum," said Tom Wall, president of the Huntington County Board of Commissioners.
