NEW DELHI, Jan 20 (Reuters) - India's state-run National Aluminium Co Ltd (NALCO) plans to set up mines and refinery project in the southern Andhra Pradesh state and would add a second aluminium smelter in the eastern state of Orissa, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.
Nalco plans to spend 57 billion rupees ($1.2 billion) in the Andhra Pradesh project and 163.5 billion rupees in Orissa for the smelter and a captive power plant, the statement said.
The proposed aluminium smelter will have 500,000 tonnes a year capacity and will be completed in two phases.
