Rio Tinto shareholders indifferent to BHP’s charming offer

News from Johannesburg, Nov. 13: Many important shareholders of Rio TInto are indifferent to BHP’s attractive offer; they have no proposal to support the combination. Besides, some analysts are doubt the saying that the production cost will be reduce if they emerged. Some main shareholders expressed that they are waiting for further development, such as rise their purchase price. Till now, they all oppose BHP’s offer. This company suggested a 3:1 exchange rate, this is to say the purchase price is 140 billion. Chief executive Marius Kloppers of BHP said in Monday, they will hold discussion with Rio’s shareholders, they hope they can give pressure to management of Rio and begin combination negotiation. Spokesmen of Rio said after that BHP’s proposal has nothing new. Analyst Bernstein Research suggested the baseline of BHP is to rise exchange rate to 3.6:1.
