LONDON - World aluminium stocks fell to 2.89 mln tonnes in May after a slight rise in April, according to the International Aluminium Institute's monthly report.
In April, the revised figure for world inventories totalled 2.93 mln tonnes.
The May figure was down 5.7 pct from 3.065 mln tonnes a year earlier.
Stocks were close to their Nov 2006 low of 2.837 mln tonnes, the lowest level since 1973.
In North America and Europe, the main regions for aluminium supplies, reserves fell on the previous month, as they did in Latin America.
In Asia, reserves were slightly up, while in Africa and in Oceania Australia and New Zealand reserves were stable.
